An introductory question: at what point will the Fula nationalists acknowledge that equality in their country is completely assured?
Those who, prior to 1989, had a significant presence in the public service, as well as the armed and securityforces. Furthermore, numerous Fula and Tekrur held positions as chief of staff, commander of military regions, minister of sovereignty, ambassador, and governor of regions, while the Senegalese Moors did not even have a Sous-Prefet in Senegal.
Despite everything, an army group belonging to the Fula-Tekruri ethnicity tried to take over through military action, and even convinced Abdou Diouf's government to prepare their soldiers to invade the 'Walfougui' region.
Whatever the context, Fula nationalists will always say that Mauritania is a country of apartheid because the real issue is elsewhere. Their secret objective is centered on identity, and it will not change until they receive constitutional approval that the four institutional ethnic groups have equal power in Mauritania.
It is certain that the rope will remain stuck in the Moor's throat. They are not prepared to accept such an amendment because with whom they can share their state does not fail them, neither in the north with the Saharawi nor in the east with the Azawadi, especially since they are Moors like them.
Let that be made clear. If the demand for an inclusive national dialogue is recurrent and persistent, it is surely for deciding on a refoundation that will make the Mauritanian state no longer only Arab, but also Fula, Soninke and Wolof, and possibly Harratine, if the latter become a full ethnic group during this 'constituent' assembly. In addition, the language issue will be brought up to alter the status of Arabic as a unique official language.
Otherwise, why is there a contradictory debate between parties, civil society, and government only for the purpose of discussing contingent issues related to political and administrative governance that are under parliamentary control?
In short, if one is dissatisfied in a tandem for identity reasons, the claims remain constant, even if they are irrational.
